And to Robin Leach, nonetheless!
Last month, Britney Spears posted a beautifully enigmatic piece of performance art on Instagram — a video of herself painting flowers on a canvas, inexplicably changing outfits mid-video, as Mozart played in the background. Today, we finally learned what that painting was for.
Spears sold her painting for $10,000 at an auction benefiting the victims of last month’s Las Vegas shooting. Vegas is the singer’s current home during her Piece of Me residency. And who, you may wonder, is the lucky owner of this painting? None other than Robin Leach, Vegas resident and former host of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Leach was also the auctioneer at the event.
The colorful floral painting was put up for sale at Las Vegas’ Venetian Hotel to raise money for VegasCares, an organization raising money to commission an art piece in memory of Las Vegas massacre victims, People reports.
“I’m so proud to call Vegas my second home and I’m pleased to participate in this Vegas Cares show,” she told bidders via video message. “The flowers in my painting represent a new beginning, and it’s in that spirit that we move forward. All the proceeds from the winning bid go to Vegas Cares Memorial Fund. I appreciate your kindness and your generosity—I love you Vegas.”
