The poster child of a beauty junkie, Ali Cromarty uses her Instagram page @thealivalley to establish herself as a true beauty obsessive. She puts the visual spotlight on her modest—yet aesthetically pleasing—collections of products (with the occasional selfie thrown in, of course). But, who is the woman behind the bountiful hoards of face creams and zit-zappers?
To truly get to know Cromarty, we asked her about her most vulnerable point in the day: her morning. Or, more importantly, her morning beauty and wellness routine. Below, check out Cromarty’s go-to workout, her favorite avocado toast, and more.
What’s the first thing you do every morning?
“I turn off my alarm, put the radio on, wash my face and brush my teeth.”
Do you have a morning workout routine?
“Not at all. I’d love to be one of those early morning workout kind of people, especially since I live at the beach but I’ve never been like that. I much prefer an evening workout. A few nights a week after work, I will either go for a run, a HIIT class or do some yoga.”
Shower at-night, morning or both?
“I always shower at night, just before bed.”
Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?
“On weekdays my alarm goes off at 7am. I used to snooze always but now I never do, and sometimes I’m up earlier than my alarm from the sun waking me up. On the weekends, I never set an alarm unless I have somewhere to be early.”
If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?
“Three things: eyebrow gel (24 hr brow setter from Benefit Cosmetics), sunscreen (either Glossier Invisible Shield or Queen Screen from Ultra Violette) and coffee!”
“My perfect breakfast is either avocado on toast with chilli flakes, salt, and poached eggs, or a breakfast bowl from a café near me in North Bondi—it comes with brown rice, avocado, sauerkraut, cucumber, tomatoes, shredded chicken, poached eggs and miso sauce. It’s perfection!”
Weirdest morning beauty habit?
“I’m not sure I have one! Some mornings I don’t wash my face—that’s as weird as it gets!”
Tell us your morning hair-care routine.
“Absolutely nothing. I just wake up and go. I’ll either tie it up with my Silk Slip scrunchie or leave it down. Very low maintenance.”
How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?
“In the morning, my skincare routine at-the-moment consists of cleansing with Elemis superfood cleanser, Fresh Beauty Black Tea Kombucha Facial Essence, Dr. Roebuck’s Tassie anti-pollution serum, Clark’s Botanicals Eye Cream and Ultra Violette SPF 50+.”
How long do you usually take to get ready for the day?
“Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30! 10 minutes if it’s skincare only and 30 if it’s a makeup day.”
What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?
“It’s a tie between sunscreen and eyebrow gel.”
