The new film, titled Amy Winehouse — Back to Black, will go straight to DVD/Bluray and video-streaming sites, and it takes a look at the making of the late singer-songwriter’s second and final album, 2006’s Back to Black. The doc will feature never-before-seen footage of the singer-songwriter, and there will be interviews with the album’s producers, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi.
There will be more unreleased gems in the film, including a private performance by Winehouse the night she won five Grammy awards called An Intimate Evening in London. Her friend Charles Moriarty published a book of photos called Before Frank earlier this year, and he talked to i-D about why he wanted to show the photos.
“It just never felt right before,” he said. “I saw Asif Kapadia’s movie Amy last year and I came away with this deep sadness, and I wanted to leave people with something happier. I think it’s an amazing documentary but Before Frank is something different and casts her in a fresher and happier light. For me, it feels like sharing a memory I’ve had for a long time. I think they needed to come out.”
Amy Winehouse — Back to Black will be released on November 2, and you can pre-order the film here. Check out the trailer below:
