Last Friday, Mac Miller passed away at 26. The young American rapper passed away from a drug overdose. People on social media tried to blame Miller’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande for fueling his depression and drug usage. However, according to Shane Powers, Miller’s close friend from L.A., Grande was pivotal in Miller’s attempted recovery.
On Monday, Powers discussed his friend’s untimely death in his podcast “The Shane Show”. Powers talked about Mac’s artistic talents, his personality and his struggles with addiction.
Many people have been pointing the finger at Ariana Grande, Miller’s ex-girlfriend, as a driving force behind his death. The couple split earlier this year, when Grande started dating SNL actor Pete Davidson and got engaged soon after. Mac’s friend Shane assured his listeners that this is purely fan fiction, saying that Grande was actually filled with compassion for the “Self Care” rapper. Powers said that Ariana was ready to “go to the wall” to help out Mac and that she was devastated by his passing.
An autopsy has been performed, but further investigation is needed to determine exactly which drugs were at play.
“The autopsy was completed and a cause of death has been deferred pending additional tests. His body has been released,” Los Angeles County coroner’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani told PEOPLE. According to TMZ, Miller’s house was “swept clean” of any drugs when police were there on Saturday.
