All Signs Point To Us Wearing Bandana Shorts This Spring

We’re used to wearing bandanas in creative ways—its traditional use as headwear and neckwear, as a top circa the ‘90s, ‘00s, and again just a couple of years ago, as an over-the-garment belt, even as sandal straps. But this spring will now have us putting the paisley-printed garment on one leg at a time.

Bandana-inspired shorts have slowly been making their debut on retailers’ new arrival pages, and it’s been a long time since we’ve been this excited about shorts. A category often dominated by denim cut-offs and khaki colored Bermudas, shorts don’t often make it onto our watch list. And though bike shorts took over 2018, their body-hugging silhouette didn’t exactly make them the most wearable trend. It’s not a stretch, then, to say that bandana-inspired bottoms may be here to save our spring and summer wardrobes.

Our favorite iteration comes from the newbie beachwear brand, Paradised, which delivers the most literal bandana interpretation. But other brands are also already making their mark. Zimmermann’s Resort 2019 pink linen shorts, for example, have already seen a restock at Net-A-Porter. (If the print looks familiar, Beyonce approved of a similar rendition of the brand’s paisley set this past summer.) And for those who don’t find short shorts up their alley, we advise borrowing from the boys with the enviable patchwork board shorts from Loewe’s menswear line.

Here’s hoping the trend only continues to grow so we we can finally ditch our jorts for good.
