If you, too, were enraptured by the tale of Elio and Oliver in Call Me By Your Name and left the theater wondering if things were really over between the 17-year-old American-Italian (played by Timothée Chalamet) and the young American scholar Oliver (Armie Hammer), then you are in luck.
On Sunday’s Oscars red carpet, director Luca Guadagnino revealed to USA TODAY that there will be a sequel to the Academy Award-nominated film set in 1980s Italy. (Also, FYI, the romantic chateau the film is set in is currently for sale.) The film was adapted from author André Aciman’s novel of the same name.
“I’m already conceiving the story with André Aciman, and it’s gonna happen five or six years afterwards,” Guadagnino told USA TODAY. “It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone.” The sequel will also have Hammer and Chalamet resuming their roles. Apparently, the sequel will also be set in a different place, taking the characters around the world together.
Is this going to be a film series of the Before Sunrise variety? One can only hope! (Also, I think the question we’re all wondering is…will there be a peach scene?)
