Karl Lagerfeld is a lot of things: creative director (for life) at Chanel, as well as Fendi and his eponymous label, but what we didn’t know is that he also moonlights as Santa Claus. Women’s Wear Daily reports that King Karl is taking part in the French tradition of switching on the Champs-Élysées Holiday Lights, as part of an attempt to restore and elevate the 8th arrondissement’s shopping district.
“Karl Lagerfeld is a great designer and one of the leading personalities of the 21st century,” Jean-Noël Reinhardt, president of the Comité des Champs-Elysées, said during a press conference. “He marvelously embodies the values of French excellence that we try to promote.”
While we usually associate Lagerfeld with designing tweed blazers and beach sets rather than merrymaking, it looks like the designer is making the holiday season in France a little jollier this year. Ho, ho, ho to that!
