Christopher Bailey, Burberry‘s president and chief creative officer, announced in October he would be leaving after 17 years. But before he leaves, he’s shaking up the signature plaid to promote diversity and honor the LGBTQ+ community.
His final collection, the autumn/winter 2018 collection presented February 17 at London Fashion Week, will be a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community — and will also be the premiere of a new rainbow edition of the famous check.
In a press release, Bailey said, “My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to — and in support of — some of the best and brightest organizations supporting LGBTQ+ youth around the world. There’s never been a more important time to say that our diversity lies in our strength.”
Burberry will also be making donations to three charities in the LGBTQ communities: the Albert Kennedy Trust, the Trevor Project, and ILGA. The rainbow edition of the signature Burberry check will be sold through the same see-now-buy-now model Bailey launched in September 2016 — aka you can buy them right after the show.
