When Daniëlle Cathari sent eight looks to VFiles Fall 2017 show in the form of reconstructed Adidas tracksuits, instead of getting an email threatening legal action, she got a phone call from the Adidas team asking to collaborate. (Sometimes brands just get it, you know.)
Since then, Cathari has blown up. The 23-year-old Dutch designer’s tracksuits look both DIY and supremely luxurious — and with a tailored element that tracksuits aren’t exactly known for. She won VFiles, and now, the designer will be debuting her collaboration with Adidas Originals at NYFW on February 8th. On top of it all, Kylie Jenner is her muse and friend — and now an Adidas Originals brand ambassador.
Adidas Originals is the slightly more avant-garde fashion arm of the company, and Cathari and Jenner’s collaboration will be part of their New York Fashion Week show. Jenner talked to Vogue about working with her new pal: “When we were first introduced by Adidas Originals, we totally hit it off,” Jenner said. “Our creative styles really mirror each other. The different contrasts, colors, and vintage take totally reflect my personal style…I was so inspired by her work and how she adapted such iconic pieces, making them feel totally new but still familiar.”
Four days ago, Cathari posted on Instagram, announcing a street casting call to model the collection at the NYFW presentation on February 8th.
