Thanks to the street style crew in both London and Paris, this season it’s all about exaggerated statement coats, embellished knits, and an overall sense of maximalism.

On Monday, September 23, a flurry of “sweater weather” hashtags hit Instagram harder than the almost disappointing news of the PSL’s early August release date. These preemptively used hashtags, however, weren’t referring to the cozy knits and cashmere cardigans that you and I reluctantly pulled out of storage but were ushering in a brand-new type of sweater: The statement sweater.
Fall may be a crisp season, but those of us who live up North know it’s only a matter of time before the polar vortex makes its way into the City. Instead of wearing a coat that makes you feel like an overstuffed turkey, opt for something stylish and dramatic, like an unconventional trench coat or a modern, yet always classic fur coat.
