First, it was Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and his two Boston terriers, and now it’s all-out puppy heaven in the fashion world. It’s about to be the year of the dog starting Feb. 16th, and according to Quartz’s piece on this year, people born during the year of the dog are believed to inherit “loyalty, patience and reliability.” All good things from (wo)man’s best friend!
Lots of labels are having fun with this canine theme. Moncler and Moschino are gearing up to celebrate Chinese New Year with red-hued capsule collections. Moncler is releasing four items including a men’s bomber, a women’s parka, a baseball hat and a down jacket for small dogs (omg). The collection will launch February 8, and will be available online and in Moncler’s flagships stores.
Moschino’s collection is pure Jeremy Scott meets cartoon dog. The pieces in the seven-item collection feature Betty Boop’s faithful wide-eyed cartoon dog Pudgy. The collection includes a scarf, an iPhone case, a sweater, a T-shirt, and a dress. Pugsy is wearing very cool hats in all of them.
Last but certainly not least, maharishi is releasing a limited-edition jacket with some very Versace-esque, slightly menacing dogs on the front of it. Continuing their east-meets-west theme, a British Bulldog sits alongside a Chinese Lion Dog. The back of the jacket features a reworked Winston Churchill quote and a plea for “peace in the east, love in the west.” The jacket will be available February 2.
