It’s officially December, and you know what that means: time to pile on your warmest outerwear and get ready to hibernate. In season’s past, I’ve always reached for a thick fur—one of the many gifts passed down to me from my grandmother, and espite its controversial nature, I’ve unpopularly preferred real to faux. I know it’s not right, and my guilty conscience comes creeping in every time I slip on a coat, but I’ve just never found faux fur to be appealing. That is, until now.
And it’s not just me. In fact, quite a few luxury labels have gone fur-free this year in efforts to put forth collections that are as ethical as they are stylish—Gucci, Versace, Coach, and Burberry announced they would no longer use fur in their collections. And thanks to an influx of fashion-forward faux fur brands, retailers like Net-a-Porter have done away with animal skins, as well. Ethics might be trending, but this feels like an industry-wide step in the right direction.
From newcomers Fuzz Not Fur to brands notorious for their stylish faux like Shrimps, we are spoilt for choice in the outwear market. In the spirit of shopping smart, below, we’ve rounded up the best styles of the season.
