Frank Ocean Released a Midterms-Themed ‘Blonded Radio’

In honor of Election Day, Frank Ocean brought us a new episode of his Beats 1 show “Blonded Radio” after a long hiatus. Titled “Blonded Midterms pt. 1,” the special-edition episode was appropriately themed to encourage civic duty, and it aired live on Apple Music from 9-10 a.m. EST.

On his eighth episode of the show, Frank and his co-host Vegyn talked about right-wing conspiracies, gerrymandering, and voter suppression. They also encouraged listeners to vote and talked about their own experiences voting. Ocean described Republicans’ tendency to “deal more in fantasies.” He added, “We’re against gerrymandering. We’re against voter ID laws. We’re against voter suppression.”

While no new music from the singer was played, the episode began with his song “U-N-I-T-Y” off 2016’s Endless, and continued with a perfectly mixed soundtrack featuring music from Jadakiss, Retro X, Valee, Popcaan, and The Honeydrippers’ 1973 song “Impeach The President.”

In addition to the new “Blonded Radio” episode, Ocean also posted on Tumblr that he would give free merch to anyone who votes in four key states today. If people bring proof that they voted to four locations in Houston, Miami, Atlanta, and Dallas, they’ll be eligible for the giveaway.

The Tumblr post also endorsed candidates like Georgia’s Stacey Abrams, who would become the state’s first Black female governor if elected, and Beto O’Rourke of Texas, who would return the state’s Senate seat to Democratic control for the first time in more than 20 years.
