On Monday night, Gigi Hadid celebrated her 24th birthday with a denim-themed party in New York City. Though her entire family and many of her very famous friends were in attendance, several of these people (including Taylor Swift) did not adhere to the, in my humble opinion, very simple and easy to execute dress code.
Of course, Gigi was dressed as planned, wearing a pair of wide-leg jeans, a denim jacket, and a cropped white tank. Her sister Bella wore a very Bella-like interpretation of the theme, opting for a denim corset and a pair of mom jeans. Olivia Culpo gave us her best Ariana Grande-inspired look with an oversized denim jacket and thigh-high boots. The list of all-denim looks goes on and on…
But, while (almost) everyone was looking adorable in their Canadian tuxedos, there were those who seemingly could not get it together. Taylor Swift, for example, came dressed in a summer dress and a blazer with no denim in sight. Gigi’s own brother, Anwar, wore a pair of black pants and a T-shirt. Marc Jacobs was also there, smiling for pictures. What was he wearing? All-black.
Most people have at least two pieces of denim in their closets, and the people at this party certainly do. Sure, they looked great, but did they adhere to this simple and adorable party idea? Decidedly no. Theme parties are sacred, and I’m offended at the disrespect of those who just couldn’t get it together.
