Harry Styles (soulful crooner, fashion icon, and wearer of single pearl earrings) has finally given us a whiff of what we imagine can be his true odor with his new Gucci fragrance, Mémoire d’une Odeur. But, while we wait to get our hands on it, only words can describe the unique aroma headlined by the former One Directioner — which, according to Styles himself, is the exact smell you can imagine embodying the literary icon, Joan Didion.
In an interview with Dazed Beauty, Styles opened up about the new gender-neutral fragrance he crafted with the iconic fashion house, which he cements as his favorite scent (he apparently even sleeps in it). But, what truly catches the eye (err, nose?) is that this new fragrance apparently resembles that of a legendary essayist’s home. “It smells like what I imagine Joan Didion’s house to smell like,” Styles told the publication.
So, what could one expect a Didion scent replica to smell like? No, not hints of clean sheets of paper or cigarettes, but “floral, clean, not heavy” notes, according to the pop star. In case you can’t get a whiff of the poetic energy surrounding this aroma, let this enchanting campaign video for Gucci’s latest fragrance (featuring Styles and models with books, of course) convince you otherwise:
