Here’s What Went Down at the MTV EMA’s

This year’s MTV European Music Awards took place at Bizkaia Arena in Bilbao, Spain—it was a “first” in many respects: Little Mix made their debut at the awards with Nicki Minaj, Halsey performed her new song “Without Me” and the first-ever MTV Generation Change award was given.

Fashion-wise, we saw some wild styling combos trotting down the pink carpet. Bebe Rexha rocked a head-to-toe Moschino x H&M liquid sequins look. This was followed by Dua Lipa, who went for an 80’s-inspired padded mini dress, right before winning the “Best Pop Award.” Minaj made a classy appearance in a shimmering bustier and tulle gown.

On a side note, Lindsay Lohan received a warm welcome from a crowd of excited fans, eager to take selfies with her.

Singer Alessia Cara stole the show with a grey oversize suit which she accessorized with a yellow tie and a Best World Stage Performance Award.

Flawless Janet Jackson made a killer comeback live performance to collect her Global Icon Award sporting an all-black harness ensemble as she walked barefoot onto stage pulling some epic dance moves.

Her acceptance speech was a shout out to all women out there who have been mistreated:

“Tonight I feel moved to speak for all those women as [I] am one of those [women] who have been gagged, abused, intimidated, lived in fear. I stand with you-you are my sisters.

Women, our voices will be heard when we speak out for justice, when we speak out for the spirit, for a spirit that crosses all borders, that recognises the dignity of all people and all faiths, when we speak out for all-embracing love.

Let’s lift our voices and let the ever amazing love of God lead the way.”

The big winner of the night was Camila Cabello who went home with 3 awards out of 6 nominations.
