Are your Spotify mixes no longer delivering? Have you grown tired of your steady rotation of Ariana Grande, Halsey, and “Shallow”? It was only a matter of time. Luckily, there’s a new artist waiting in the wings to sonically steal your heart, and she’s worth the investment.
It wasn’t long before Ivory Layne caught the attention of megastar Justin Timberlake, and considering her dulcet, otherworldly vocals and poignant lyrics it’s little wonder why he snapped her up for his artist development agency. Her latest offering, “Heaven,” is half-gospel, half soul-pop with a catchy downbeat and immensely therapeutic message—even for Layne herself.
“‘Heaven’ was written as a broad-spectrum prayer, something I could sing at any moment to remind myself of a more glorious, large perspective,” she says of the track. “There have been times in my life when I’ve needed prayer walking through a dark, lonely place—and moments when I’ve been in celebration, yet still felt something was missing. This song was designed to be sung in the midst of ‘I don’t know.'”
