Iyamah is one of the biggest up-and-comers on the soul scene for her soothing vocals and enticing tunes fit for a calm Sunday morning. With her release of her latest EP, Truth — EP. 1, she proves herself to be R&B’s next big name.
But, when she’s not churning out tunes, what is this soulful singer up to? When she’s got the morning to herself, she does the usual: morning exercises, reading a certain Insta-poet’s famed collection of poetry, and turning her yawns into “some sort of interesting melody.” Below, we dive deep into Iyamah’s off-duty morning routine.

What’s the first thing you do every morning?
“Stretch, check my location for the day, have coffee or tea.”
Do you have a morning workout routine?
“I’m trying to start an actual exercise routine every morning, I think it’s such a good way to start the day! Right now I don’t, however it’s something I want to start doing on a daily basis.”
Shower at-night, morning, or both?
It depends, usually morning however sometimes I love a bath in the evening too.”
Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?
“I’m a late riser… I love a lazy morning and will usually get up around 10am but the snooze button does usually get a couple hits!”
If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?
“Switch all the lights off, and shut all the windows, then ruuuunnnnn!”
Favourite breakfast?
“I’m obsessed with hash browns and bagels, but obviously they aren’t very healthy! Also I don’t seem to get very hungry too early, so I’ll usually go for some fruit.”
Weirdest morning beauty habit?
“Every yawn seems to turn into a song, or some sort of interesting melody…”
What does your morning hair-care routine consist of? Go-to products?
“Because I have Afro hair, leaving it till the morning will most likely mean it takes up a lot of my time so I’ll wet it, comb it through with leave in conditioner (shea moisture) and plait it the night before. Braids are super easy, you wake up and it’s done.”

“I love doing a face-mask every few days but I exfoliate and moisturise daily. I often get my products from body shop and I’d recommend the Vitamin E moisturiser for combination skin.”

“About 30 minutes.”
What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?
“Burts bee’s lip-salve!”

“What am I going to write today”
Your favorite morning read?
“Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur is a really good book to pick up and read a couple of pages before starting the day, as it’s so powerful and reminds you of the important things.”
What’s on your nightstand right now?
“Salt lamp, candle, diary and pen.”
What’s the current ringtone on your alarm clock?
“Radar! (Can’t stand it)”
Coffee, tea, or go-to morning drink?
“It seems to change all the time, sometimes I just feel like a coffee, sometimes tea. NEVER with cows milk…I love oat or almond.”
What’s the last thing you did before you headed out the door today?
“I wish my memory was better, but I really can’t remember!”
