Below, we chat with Julie Schott, co-founder of the Insta-worthy skincare brand Starface, on her minimalist morning routine:
What’s the first thing you do every morning?
Pee!
Do you have a morning workout routine?
Take the dog out for a mile or so if there’s time.
Shower at-night, morning, or both?
One quick shower (for hair washing) and one bath a day.
Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?
When I get to wake up naturally, I will sleep until around 8am. Any earlier than that requires an alarm (and many snoozes).
If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?
Go to the bathroom, draw eyebrows on my face.
Favorite breakfast?
Pancakes and a big coffee, hot or cold with whatever non-dairy milk is available.

What does your morning hair-care routine look like?
Hair is the most zero-low maintenance part of my morning. It’s long enough to twist into a knot without a scrunchie or hair tie.
How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?
About three minutes. Peel off Hydro-Stars if I have pimples. Rinse. Vitamin C serum. Smear sunscreen everywhere.
How long do you usually take to get ready for the day?
My relationship with makeup changes all the time—sometimes I feel like wearing a full face, other times I feel better with nothing at all. Lately, I only do my eyebrows and put on lip balm.
What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?
Dry lips feel like nails on a chalkboard to me, so I’m never without something hydrating on my mouth.
The first word/thing that popped into your head this morning?
I have a recurring nightmare that I’m back in college but unable to graduate, so I spend a good few minutes shaking that off when I wake up.
Your favorite morning read?
Starface DMs.
What’s on your nightstand right now?
A candle, matches, maude vibe, and a book.
Coffee, tea, or go-to morning drink?
Coffee and mountain valley water.
