Not since Dolly Parton’s 1975 sparkly yellow Nudie suit has disco-country looked so good. At last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards, where she won Album of the Year, Kacey Musgraves wore an ombré, cotton candy-hued suit—the perfect visual pinnacle of the disco-country reverberations from her album Golden Year.

The suit, designed by Christian Cowan, featured ’70s accents like super-flared bell bottoms and loose, pleated arms. The pastel pink, purple, and turquoise were a sweet-treat homage to 2018’s Golden Hour album cover, where Musgraves posed in front of a Texas-blue sky, a bright pink fan partially concealing her face.
Stylist Erica Cloud kept the cotton-candy suit the outfit’s standout, concealing her shoes with the long trouser pants and adding a cheeky touch by styling the blazer with nothing underneath.
“I saw it and immediately was like, ‘This has my name written all over it,’ ” Musgraves told People. “It even kind of reminds me of the album cover a little bit. A nod to the fan on the album cover, just all the pleats… I love a gradient, I love anything ombré and anything rainbow, clearly.”

It’s been a season of confectionary ensembles for Musgraves, who wore a poufy, bubblegum-pink Giambattista Valli gown to the Academy Awards in February. She also wore a tulle gown to the Grammys, as well as a red Valentino party dress, which Cloud said was also a visual ode to Golden Hour. During the show, when Musgraves performed “Rainbow,” she wore another seventies-inspired, all-white, seventies-inspired Solace London dress.
