Real talk: Kanye West is bi-polar and doesn’t really care who knows, as the artist proclaimed “I hate being Bi-polar, it’s awesome” on his new album. West debuted ‘Ye at an intimate listening party last week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to mixed reviews. On it, he talks about a number of subjects from Kim Kardashian leaving him, to slavery to mental health.

During the listening party, Kanye West sat down for an interview with radio host Big Boy to discuss the current status of his mental health, the making of his new album, and why he chose the titled “‘Ye” for it.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us,” West says in the video interview.

The Chicago-native rapper talks about how his celebrity status allows him to use his mental health issues in a way that most people aren’t able to.

“I’m so blessed and so privileged because think about people that have mental issues that are not Kanye West, that can’t go and make that [music] and make you feel like it’s all good,” he said. “I’d never been diagnosed [with a mental health condition], and I was like 39 years old.”

Regarding his song “Yikes,” the singer said, “That’s why I said on the album, ‘It’s not a disability, it’s a superpower.'”

Of course, there could not be a Kanye interview without discussing his latest Twitter rants and his statements about slavery that TMZ wrote about in May. Apparently, the backlash was so strong that the artist decided to rework parts of the album.

“We just sat there and really honed in on the words,” he said. “Also, we know now, it’s all headlines … every bar can be used … I took a bar off the album. It was just too sensitive about that topic and stuff.”
