Is Leg Makeup In My Future?

I’m a consumer. I’m not ashamed to admit it, nor do I shy away from acknowledging the fact that I’ve teetered on the precipice of addiction, toes over the edge of shopping oblivion—or overdraft—because I desperately need whatever is before me.

It started young. Raised by a fashionista mother who vehemently supported anything on sale (advocating for anything 40-plus percent off, even if that meant the item was still in the high hundreds?), I went on to work in retail and then, media. I love being sold to and on anything outwardly self-improving—an engaged salesperson is my catnip and kryptonite—whether that be treatment, product or apparel (inwardly, I could probably use some investment). Ironically, the things I am most convinced I need are those I’d never previously considered, like body makeup.

I’m so excited for you guys to try my new @kkwbeauty Body Collection. It consists of 3 different products (body make up, a liquid body shimmer and a loose shimmer powder). I use them all separately and sometimes all together depending on the look I am going for. This one shown above is the body Make Up. This is what I use most often. I don’t always like my legs to have shimmer on them. I use this when I want to enhance my skin tone or cover my psoriasis. I bruise easily and have veins and this has been my secret for over a decade. I’ve learned to live with and not be insecure of my psoriasis, but for days when I want to just cover it up I use this Body Makeup. My formula is so creamy and buildable and has a smooth satin finish. It builds easily for a more full coverage if needed. It launches 06.21.19 at 12pm pst at #kkwbeauty.  Stay tuned for some videos showing how i use it all.

The latest product to be hocked by the Kardashian-Jenner empire comes via Kim Kardashian West’s psoriasis-surviving secret—a foundation/highlighter for one’s limbs. The visuals of Kardashian self-applying the product with a large brush are nothing short of hypnotizing, and frankly, I’m hooked. But should I be? Like ‘celebrity tape,’ backless bras (I have big boobs, so they never seemed wise), and complex Spanx, body makeup seemed a length reserved solely for celebrity appearances—those for whom the all-angle scrutiny was so intense, there was not an inch that should go unaddressed or untouched. If I’ve never before considered smoothing large chunks of my body, should I spend my money to edge ever-closer to perfection?

It’s worth mentioning that my legs (the primary body part suggested for the product’s use) are far from red carpet ready. I am blessed with impending varicose veins, a hereditary curse that will likely spring forth the minute I hit my quarter-life marker (touch wood). I grew up under a dissipating ozone layer, and the sun took no prisoners when it came to my knees and shins. There are scars and scratches that allude to all the misguided tomfoolery of a childhood in rural New Zealand, and a series of unexplainable bruises from misguided tomfoolery in late-night New York. I am far, far from perfection, but, surprisingly, unlike many other insecurities, it hasn’t held me back from unnecessarily slutty hem-lines.

Kardashian’s new KKW release has yet to hit shelves, virtual or otherwise, but leg makeup is not a new concept. This blogger bought a version from Instagram, and regretted it. Another reviewed a range, garnering grateful comments and application recommendations (“you must let it DRY!!! then a SETTING POWDER!! more for scars…veins…etc.”). Makeup designed for below the neck is far from the path least trodden, so if you’re going to walk it, it might as be with legs that look naturally airbrushed. Will my next purchase further line Kim’s pockets? Who knows! One more video and I just might dive off the deep end.
