Get Ready Lambs, Mariah Carey is About to Drop New Music

Mariah Carey isn’t just an artist, she’s a lifestyle. That lifestyle includes 24-kt gold spray tans, “I don’t know her” epithets, and Glitter, Carey’s early aughts movie about a fledgling singer trying to make it in the music industry. Carey will forever be immortalized as the OG diva, but she’s not out of commission yet. Far from it. In fact, she has new music dropping only days after her Las Vegas “The Butterfly Returns” residency ended.

Carey told People in August, “I’ve been working on my new album for a while. This is a labor of love and I’m really excited.” She continued, saying “This is me at this moment in my life being able to express myself as a writer and a singer. I’m just really in a good place.”

She’s been subtly dropping hints on Twitter about the new music as of Monday.

But today, she finally announced the release date of her new single, “How Bout You (GTFO)” is tomorrow.

Lambs, the name of Mariah Carey’s die hard fans, are ready. “Let’s get ready #Lambs,” one fan tweeted.

Mariah also posted a series of new Instagram Stories today, which have become the latest subject of fan speculation. The mystery continues…

But mostly, the #lambs are just really ready for Mimi’s return.

Although she’s dropped singles more recently, the last full studio album Mariah released was Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, back in 2014. Although it’s widely debated, her last great album was E=MC², the same album that featured her fairly ubiquitous track “Obsessed,” which took shots at rapper Eminem.

Her new album is expected to sound “current,” but Carey says that she’s not trying to follow “anybody else’s trends.” “My fans just want to hear me express myself and speak from the heart and sing from the heart,” she said. “Some of the record is lighthearted and fun, and some [songs] I really went deep in terms of the lyrical content. There’s a nice cross-section.”
