As Page Six said, leave it to Marc Jacobs to make proposing in a Chipotle cool. On Wednesday night, Jacobs proposed to his longtime partner Charly Defrancesco inside the fast-food chain.
The designer had a flash mob of dancers from Plural NYC perform Prince’s “Kiss” as the couple entered the restaurant. Defrancesco was unsuspecting, even filming the routine as he watched with Jacobs. After the dancers finished, Jacobs, 54, dropped to one knee and presented a ring. On Instagram, he posted a video, captioning it “And this happened…’Charly Defrancesco will you marry me?’” And then “…to my Ride or Die fiancé @chardefrancesco I LOVE YOU ❤”
It also happened to be Defrancesco’s birthday (which, shout out to going to Chipotle for your birthday dinner). The proposal was the perfect burrito-bowl themed birthday gift, with the designer posting earlier in the day on social media, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the love of my life!!!”. Jacobs and Defrancesco have been together for two years. Defrancesco is an underwear model, actor who was in the TV show Sense8, and a candlemaker with a line of candles called Get Lit by Char. Previously, Jacobs was with porn star Harry Louis, who he split from in 2013.
The couple has been known to pull stunts with each other before, like during Christmas when the model got a group of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens to lip-sync to “Big Spender” while dressed in the designer’s resort collection. Defrancesco also posted the proposal video to Instagram, captioning it with “GET READY FOR THE ALL TIME GAG!!!!! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.”
Celebrity friends are showering the couple with well-wishes. “Congratulations,” commented Naomi Campbell. “Yeah! Wedding! I’m so happy for you, I love you.” Lisa Rinna commented with several hands-and-hearts emojis, and model Winnie Harlow said “yaaaay congratulations!!!!”
For one night, a Manhattan Chipotle was the most romantic spot in the city.
