Mariah Carey is returning to the scene of the crime. Last year, everyone’s favorite diva gave a…less than stellar performance on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest.
In spite of a glitchy performance where almost everything went wrong, Mariah Carey is, well, Mariah Carey, and I assume this year everything will go swimmingly. Last year, as she launched into her song “Emotions,” halfway through she said her monitors weren’t working, and the singer, clearly upset, attempted to keep singing her 1991 hit. Right before the ball dropped, she started singing “We Belong Together,” and gave an awkward “Happy New Year!” mid-song.
Carey’s team accused Dick Clark Productions of sabotaging her performance for the ratings (really the perfect diva response to the situation) and Dick Clark Productions copped to technical errors.
But all – or mostly all — seems to be forgiven. Or at least forgiven enough to do a re-do.
“We can all agree that last year didn’t go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration,” Carey’s team and Dick Clark Productions said in a joint statement to The Associated Press on Saturday. “See you in Times Square!”
