Very few moments in the day are as bare as the moment you wake up. We each have our own kinks and quirks that help us get out of bed, but few of us are brave enough to share them with the world. Introducing A Cool Morning, a deep dive into the intimate daytime rituals of our coolest friends and beauty innovators.
Meagan Scott is the literal flower child of beauty. Baby’s breath, butterflies, and rugged moss often find ways into the makeup artist’s work. While she’s not creating ethereal masterpieces, she’s tackling tougher subjects like mental health and the ethics (or rather, lack of) in beauty. Scott takes an easily-digestible take on wokeness, one cruelty-free lipstick at a time
Her playful, romantic energy is one to watch on the beauty scene, which is why we asked her to share her morning routine. Below, Scott opens up about her love for almond milk porridge, moisturizer, and more.
What’s the first thing you do every morning?
“I always start my day off with switching on my water kettle for my morning rooibos or ginger tea.”
Do you have a morning workout routine?
“If you would count walking the dog as a morning workout routine, then yes.“
Shower at-night, morning, or both?
“At night, for sure.”
Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?
“I normally get up at 9 a.m., and I’m pretty good at only hitting snooze once or twice.”
If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?
“Moisturize my face!”
“Porridge with almond milk, maple syrup, and blueberries.”
Tell us your morning hair-care routine.
“I normally don’t have one, but since I’m trying to grow out my short hair I either curl it with a flat iron or put a beanie over it to make it not look like such a mess.”
How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?
“It depends on how my skin is doing at the time. If it’s doing bad, I like to do a face mask, preferably a clay one. But my normal skin care routine takes about 5-10 minutes.
My go-to products are my Lush Ultrabalm (it works wonders on my dry patches) and my Alverde Clear Face Fluid.”
How long do you usually take to get ready for the day?
“I always give myself a minimum of one hour to get completely ready to leave the apartment. Picking out the right outfit for the day is always the most time consuming part.”
What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?
“Some lip balm or lip gloss, because this German weather is not treating my lips very well. I normally use my Alterra Lip Balm in Chamomile or my Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow.”
The first word/thing that popped into your head this morning?
“I really need to do the washing!”
