We’ve been hip to the PVC trend for a minute now, but the plastic look has crept up once again — and I, for one, am not tired of it. Particularly with the raininess of late winter/spring, plastic wear is a trendy way to stay dry — and look very futuristic while doing so. Plastic was a theme for many Spring 2018 collections, from Balmain’s clear plastic-and-black-trim boot to 3.1 Phillip Lim’s plexi flower earrings. And to top it all off, Helmut Lang dropped the plastic accessory to beat all plastic accessories: the transparent briefcase (because sometimes your business is…everyone’s business).

Plastic — whether in accessory form or wardrobe staple — is a fun statement piece for your ~lewk~. It’s playful and quite literally smells like a playground. (Good or bad, depending on your perspective.) Plus, it gives you a bit of a ‘90s pop star vibe, channeling Posh Spice in her catsuit for “Say You’ll Be There” or Shania Twain’s black PVC pants in “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
