Yves Saint Laurent famously celebrated his Opium fragrance in 1978 on a boat docked at the South Street Seaport. This week, Anthony Vaccarello hosted the modern-day iteration of the seaside party for his Men’s Spring 2019 collection for Saint Laurent.
The nights festivities took place at Liberty State Park, located in New Jersey across the Hudson River. The scene was futuristic and made of marble. Some of the stars who stood out from the front row included Kate Moss, Lauryn Hill, and Lakeith Stanfield.
The fashion was a mixture of Anthony Vaccarello’s usual sexy aesthetic and the golden age of Americana style during Studio 54.
Vaccarello tells Vogue, the collection was inspired by “the idea of New York, the idea of the icons of New York in the ’70s.”
There was certainly a lot of gold detailing, for one, a nod to the disco, boogie fever of yore. Overall, the collection had what felt like a distinct “Western” vibe. Like the way a Parisian cowboy might dress.
To that we say, yee-haw!
