XXXTentacion was gunned down outside of Riva Motorsports shop north of Miami in Deerfield Beach on June 18. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said that a second suspect, Michael Boatwright, 22, was one of the two suspects who approached the rapper. The suspect was arrested July 5 on drug charges, but detectives served him with an arrest warrant for first-degree murder while he was in jail. Detectives are still looking for a third suspect, 22-year-old Robert Allen, who is listed as a person of interest in the shooting of the 20-year-old rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy.
In the wake of XXXTentaction’s death, his estate has been keeping his name alive in the form of his music and merchandise. TMZ reported that a trademark was filed by the rapper’s camp to apply for a trademark to put his name on jerseys, jackets, hats, t-shirts, sweats, collared shirts and hoodies. Following his death, his album streams jumped astronomically, seeing a 41,306% spike in a matter of hours.
An official march store launched earlier this month, with prices for T-shirts, shorts and a hoodie ranging from $35 to $75. It was also recently reported that X had signed a $10 million deal with Empire Distribution shortly before his death. The New York Times reported on Sunday, July 8, that there is a clause in the contract that may prevent his new projects from dropping until October.
