Selena Gomez’s New Bikini is Built For Your Insecurities (and Her Kidney Scar)

Selena Gomez is definitively back in action. She’s been making red carpet appearances in pastel eyeshadow, posting sultry selfies on Instagram and now, she’s teamed up with a long-time pal to create a line of swimwear that’s actually, well, very good.

In 2017, Gomez very publicly underwent a kidney transplant as a result of her lupus. She shared post-op images of the gnarly scar with her 100 million-plus Instagram followers, at the time and was later photographed on a Sydney yacht in a string bikini scars-and-all.

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. In collaboration with friend and former assistant Theresa Mingus, Selena designed a series of flatteringly high-waisted bikinis — featuring with belts and half-cups — in black and red rib for new swim brand, Krahs. The pair sat down to recount the origins of their friendship and discuss the partnership, with Selena querying how the pair’s relationship impacted Mingus’s personal and professional growth.
