In 1968, Desmond Knox-Leet, painter and founder of the House, created the first diptyque perfume, L'Eau. A fusion of spices, cloves, cinnamon, flowers and wood, the revolutionary scent, recalls medieval potpourris. The first niche fragrance, first perfume not assigned to a gender, first perfume of an author,LEau disrupted the codes of the genre. Simultaneously, in the 34 Boulevard Saint Germain shop, an array of surprising objects reminiscent of this potpourri were sold : Culpeper pomanders, oranges piqued with scented cloves..
