The designer/DJ and Parisian label debuted their collection at the Moxy Times Square
Only a quick glance is needed at Sita Abellan and Faith Connexion’s new collaboration to know the designer and label are a match made in heaven. Abellan’s technoprincess style and Faith Connexion’s high-fashion-meets-DIY feel work together seamlessly to create some very glam club-kid pieces.
Abellan rose quickly to fame after Rihanna cast her in her music video for “BBHMM” in 2015. She’s been a scene fixture ever since with her signature deep-blue, blunt-banged hairstyle and maximalist DJ-from-the-future look. The collection, Office Magazine notes, articulates Abellan’s style expertly. “Electric blues, high-shine leather, tulle, zippers, animal prints and glitter gave the line a modernized Madonna look,” Office writes.
One of the most superstar pieces from the collection is an electric-blue biker jacket in metallic calfskin made of 2,500 studs, which took 30 hours to apply. The collection isn’t afraid to go where most collections don’t usually venture — extremely fitted, almost bodycon pieces with an unapologetically sexy vibe. “We wanted to emphasize the shape of the woman because everyone is making clothing right now that is so big,” Abellan told Vogue. “I used recycled clothes that I made into new pieces. Also, there is a little bit of the ’80s.”
Staying very true to theme, the show at the Moxy Times Square had live snakes, an evening soundtracked by Venus X and a crowd including Slick Woods and Richie Shazam. Check out the nine-piece capsule collection here.
