Here, BAUM shares the songs to see you through the final stages of retrograde’s shadow period and manifest the very best version of yourself for Leo season.
1. The Japanese House, “Everybody Hates Me”
I think when you’re feeling really low, it’s important to acknowledge those feelings and let them happen so that they can pass. This song gives me a lot of comfort when I’m feeling that way and reminds me that I’m not the only one going through it. It’s also just wildly beautiful and therapeutic.
2. Banks, “Underdog”
This song makes me want to workout even though there is literally nothing I find more tortuous. It reminds me of that classic silver lining when anything bad happens: you’ll have a great story to tell.
3. Sharon Van Etten, “Comeback Kid”
Sharon Van Etten’s voice is the definition of badass. This is the kind of song that would make me proud of how angsty I was in my teen years and help me get through it with confidence.
4. Dominic Fike, “King of Everything”
This whole project is wonderful and so real. This song feels like an ode to the everyday moments when you’re by yourself and can forget about the pressure of everything outside. Even if you had a horrible day, you can come home and be the king of your own space.
5. Tierra Whack, “Unemployed”
My favorite new artist. I think when I walk around listening to her people are probably like, “Why does this girl think Santa Monica is her runway.”
6. Charlie XCX and Christine and the Queens, “Gone”
We love a banger that addresses social anxiety and hanging in the wrong crowd. A collab for the ages. The chorus is unreal.
7. Tierra Whack, “Fuck Off”
See number four.
8. Hope Tala, “Lovestained”
I heard this song on “Pollen” for the first time a couple weeks ago and instantly fell in love. This really feels like a breath of fresh air and for me, listening to music that isn’t like anything I’ve heard before can change my perspective really quickly.
9. Wheatus, “Teenage Dirtbag”
Just an all-around head banger and you can’t escape it. I dance to this in my apartment very, very often.
10. Lizzo, “Juice”
I’m so happy that Lizzo exists. This song is eternal summer.
