The ’90s Shoe Trend We’re Hoping Sticks Around This Time

Over the past year or so, even as Instagram-popular shoe brands like By Far and LoQ became known for their more angular silhouettes, the popularity of square-toed shoes has remained a bit more niche. While footwear designs can fluctuate as much as any other of-the-moment fashion trend, a more pointed shape has been the long-reigning favorite. In 2019, however, things are (finally!) getting boxy.

While labels like Proenza Schouler, Rejina Pyo, and Marni showed strong angular styles for Fall 2019, there are plenty of spring and summer options you can buy now. And though the blunt shape may be reminiscent of styles from the ‘60s and ‘90s, the flat toe box feels modern, chic, and streamlined.

In a few years the fashion world might be back on board with pointed or rounded shapes, but for the time being, the square-toe is sticking around. Shop our favorites below.
