Athletic wear has circulated for decades from the 20th century of the 70s and most popularized during the 80s progressing from leisure to athletics, and what is known today as athleisure a happy medium between the two.
The recent shift in athleisure has quickly ushered a newfound satisfaction for all things workout wear. No longer just for a pilates and vinyasa session before or after work but athleisure can be worn from the office to an after-hours recap, but why the latest infatuation with garments your essentially suppose to sweat in? Simple, buying power and the numbers don’t lie, with sales soaring 17% from last year and athletic wear becoming the largest category in the US. Brands such as Yeezy, Off-White, Outdoor Voices, and Public Rec are among the slew of companies capitalizing on athleisure’s trending stance.
We’ve opted for a casual take to the athleisure trend one equipped for both running errands or just a stroll around with your bestie in town. Aim for high-waisted leggings, stripped at the sides to give an extra boost to the trend and bit of eye candy as well. Pair your leggings with a basic tank top, sneakers and the creme de la creme a belt bag for an optimal nod to the 1980s workout craze with a twist. Although, we have graduated from neon leggings, sweatbands, and leg warmers, we’ll still secretly live vicariously through Oliva Newton-John’s “Let Get Physical” on repeat in our heads.
