Finally, a museum that gets it!
In 2017, we all know what museums are really for — selfies, of course. One such institution understood this, got to the meat of the matter, and made selfies the art. Coming to Los Angeles in January, the Museum of Selfies will be joining the ranks of other Instagram-friendly art spaces like Museum of Ice Cream and 29Rooms.
First things first, the Museum of Selfies will be an actual museum. Installations will examine the 40,000-year history of self-representation, including contemporary reimaginings of famous artists like Klimt and Van Gogh taking selfies. And, of course, there will be lots of spots for actual selfies, albeit with a very tongue-in-cheek approach. There will be the “high-up selfie” featuring a fake rooftop locale and a “bathroom” selfie with a two-sided room “lacking self-reflection.”
There’s also talk that the museum will feature a soon-to-be-announced Guinness Book of World Records item.
See the museum for yourself at 211 North Brand Boulevard in Glendale, California. Tickets are a bit pricey, but $25 will get you unlimited selfie opportunities — worth it, right? Maybe?
