If Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection is any indication, the eighties are never fully over. Think DayGlo-hued animal prints, lots of sequins, and the city of Beverly Hills.
Housed at the Park Avenue Armory, the room bathed in lavender light and the vibes were just as flashy as the folks in the front row. Zayn Malik, Julianne Moore, La La Anthony, Hailey Baldwin, and more. And just in case the mood for throwback glam needs to be set a bit more, the show opened with the Pointer Sisters’ I’m So Excited. Bling, neon, and animal print can be found in any cheap/wonderful clothing store on a downtown street, but Tom Ford brings his unmatchable tailoring to low-brow luxury.
The suiting was sharp-shouldered amid neon snake print (my absolutely favorite), and overall things were FUN. It wouldn’t be an ‘80s revival without, of course, the appropriate headwear, and thick headbands gave each look a workout vibe, even to the most well-cut suits.
Ford made sure not to keep things too in the past, however. Some of the most talked-about accessories were Time’s Up and #MeToo movement-themed, with a pair of rhinestone-emblazoned heels with “Pussy Power” on either shoe and bedazzled handbags with the same message. Bad taste is in, babes.
