Velvet Hair Accessories Are Cool Again

Like gold, silver-and-red sequins, and glitter everything, velvet usually makes a few select appearances during the winter months. Thanks to the street crew at fashion week, however, velvet is having a moment.

Velvet (if done right) has the ability to make even the plainest outfit look effortlessly chic. Velvet bows, for example, are the perfect way to add a bit of oomph to your typical jeans and T-shirt combo.

From an affordable, yet classically chic black velvet bow to an upscale knotted headband, here are a few velvet hair accessories we’re falling for this season.

Velvet Hair Bow

This year,  Anne Curtis—the very first female recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award—attended the 2019 FAMA Awards wearing a black Michael Leyva dress and Audrey Hepburn’s Givenchy black velvet hair bow. (Curtis purchased Hepburn’s hair bow collection from Christie’s Auction House.) If that doesn’t make a case for the velvet hair bow, I don’t know what will.

Velvet Knotted Headband

One of the easiest ways to hide a bad hair day is to throw on a fabric headband of some kind. Go retro with a slicked-back pony or cool-and-casual with a messy bun. Either way, a knotted velvet headband is the quickest way to amp up your look sans effort.

Velvet Scrunchie

Scrunchies get a bad rep for being a ’90s has-been, but this year scrunchies have made their claim as a power-accessory, on and off the runway. (Even Lizzo was seen wearing a bedazzled scrunchie to the VMAs!)
