British punk icon and designer Vivienne Westwood, 77, is crossing the pond for New York Fashion Week. Westwood will be headed to the Big Apple this September, where she will hold a buyers-only preview of her new collection.
Westwood typically holds her fashion shows and presentations during London Fashion Week. She is known for being vocal about her socio-political views and using fashion as a platform to voice them.
Even though Westwood’s event won’t be open to editors, celebrities, or influencers like traditional fashion shows, it’s still a big deal that this icon is previewing her collection at NYFW. Over the past few seasons, many New York designers have chosen to show their collections in other major cities.
Some of these designers who have left NYFW include Tommy Hilfiger, Proenza Schouler, Rebecca Minkoff, and Rodarte. The latter has been showing their collections in Paris for the past few seasons, but has decided to return to NYFW this September as well.
