If you’re Justin Bieber, you can f*ck around and start an almost entirely corduroy-based clothing line with some funny jokes as product descriptions, and the entire world will pay attention. And that’s just what our beloved Christian scumbro did!
Bieber’s Drew House line just dropped its first collection, and it’s a brief array of T-shirts with stoner smiley faces and lots of beige corduroy. It’s unexpected and quite frankly, I’m into it! It’s funny and clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is more than can be said about most streetwear labels.
But, let’s dig in and start with the logo itself. “Drew”, Bieber’s middle name, is designed in a bubbly startup-esque font, which gives the models wearing the shirts the air of young, hot employees for an app that is maybe a freelance services marketplace. Then, strikingly, the SoCal skater vibe gives way to…a full suit of corduroy. From camel-colored pants to a button-up, elastic-waist shorts to a pullover, Bieber must be VERY inspired by a sort-of ’70s school-teacher vibe.
Notably, the shorts have the “drew” logo” emblazoned on the crotch. The “About Us” section of Drew House’s site—along with the product descriptions—invite us to experience what it must be like to share an inside joke with Justin Bieber. “Drew House is a place where you can be yourself. blah blah blah blahsdbksjdfhl” the page reads. Then, the product descriptions are peppered with random facts such as “all swans in england belong to the queen” and “pteronophobia is the fear of being tickled by feathers” as fun Easter eggs hidden between information on shipping.
Prices start at $48 for a shirt and range up to $148 for the corduroy trousers. Though the pieces are more expensive than the Drew House slippers that debuted last December, available at the shockingly low price of $5.99, $48 might not be too bad for a charmingly odd celebrity product that you can sell for triple that on eBay in a decade.
