The #BombCyclone has officially arrived. And if you’re anywhere in the Northeast this winter, you know the struggle is real when it comes to cold weather skincare. Despite wrapping yourself in Diddy-style layers of fur, you’re still thinking, how do I walk outside without immediately looking like a chapped tomato? We consulted our favorite beauty gurus on their winter beauty routines and the best products to keep skin looking and feeling fresh. Here are the hacks.
1. Use a sleeping pack for the day
When it’s this cold outside (New York is a frosty 24°), the extreme temperatures break down the skin’s barrier causing extreme redness. One of our favorite Korean beauty hacks is using a sleeping pack during the day the hold in the moisture. After you cleanse, essence and apply whatever serums and oils you use as part of your morning routine, lock it all in with a generous heaping of night mask. Our favorites are Missha’s Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Sleeping Mask and the Liole V-Line Sleeping Pack. They’re light enough for daytime use and will keep you hydrated even in the most Arctic of conditions.

2. Don’t be afraid of oils
Facial oils have had a huge resurgence in popularity as of late, thanks to their ultra-hydrating properties. Don’t shy away from the skin saviors for the name alone, they can actually help in combatting the overproduction of oil and acne-causing sebum. Try adding a few drops into your favorite daytime moisturizer in lieu of nighttime use. Our go-to is Rodin’s cult Olio Lusso. The smell is divine and the travel size is small enough to pack in your handbag for any on-the-go needs.

3. Sheet masks are your best friend
If you’re not already obsessed with looking like Jason from Halloween two nights a week, you should be. Another K-beauty import, sheet masks offer intense hydration force fed directly to your skin’s surface. Up the ante during the winter and MAMAP (Mask As Much As Possible). You might scare the neighbors, but your skin will thank you. We love this snail-based option. Yes, snail pollen is amazing. Another great one is Charlotte Tilbury’s Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s actually amazing.
