Madonna’s Daughter Puts A Downtown Touch On Converse X MadeMe

What do you get when you combine Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon, with the coolest women’s streetwear brand? You get, well…something extra cool. Leon is the new fact of MadeMe’s collaboration with Converse, designed by cult-fave streetwear designer Erin Magee.

Magee told Vogue that she wore Converse sneakers as a teenager in the 90s, and she had been reunited with the brand’s signature One Star shoe shortly before working with them. “I found a pair [of Converse One Stars] on Etsy and they were from maybe 1994,” she told the magazine. “I had been wearing them myself for a month or two before Converse called me.”

The collection consists of six pieces: a backpack, halter top, tracksuit, loose shorts, a long-sleeve shirt, and, of course, a new spin on the One Star available in four different colors and new materials, like grass-green suede and yellow corduroy. It also turned out to be fate that Leon, who had previously collaborated with Magee on the X-Girl campaign, happened to see the Converse tracksuits in the designer’s office.

“She [Leon] was in my office, because we were working on something for MadeMe, and she saw the Converse drawings on the wall and said, ‘Erin, what is this for? I love these new tracksuits. I love these shoes. Can I shoot this?’” Magee told Vogue. “I was like, ‘Funny because I was going to ask you.’”

The collection channels a current wave of downtown-coolness, with the fitted on top and baggy pants style of people like Princess Nokia or Leon. Converse x MadeMe looks to be your new summer uniform, and you can shop it on May 24 at Dover Street Market or on converse.com. We’ll see you on Howard Street.
