Very few moments in the day are as bare as the moment you wake up. We each have our own kinks and quirks that help us get out of bed, but few of us are brave enough to share them with the world. Introducing A Cool Morning, a deep dive into the intimate daytime rituals of our coolest friends and beauty innovators.
Angela Rosen may not be a household name, but her Soho facial studio, D A P H N E, holds near and dear to the hearts of every fresh-faced girl in NYC. The elite studio, which contains facials used with only the finest French complexion revivers Biologique Recherche has to offer, is the successor of her ever-popular Seattle spa, Penelope & The Beauty Bar, and is one of the hottest spots in Manhattan to go to if your pores are in a need of a pick-me-up.
As the founder of these two skincare gems, Rosen obviously knows all there is to know about skin. Sure, we could ask her for tips, but that doesn’t suffice for us. Instead, we dug deep into her morning routine (which we’re copying really soon). Below, we talk to Rosen about morning pilates, gargling with baking soda, and more of her essential AM regimen.
What’s the first thing you do every morning?
“I brush my teeth and throw on a Biologique Recherche Masque most mornings. I switch it up depending on my skin’s needs.”
Do you have a morning workout routine?
“Pilates every morning before work!”
Shower at-night, morning, or both?
“I don’t really have a set time. It depends on what I do, but typically night time!”
Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?
“I wake up at 6:08am (so weird!)”
If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?
“I always have to have a green tea.”
“I make a smoothie including Elle McPherson’s Super Elixir and protein powder from Elle. It made my hair beautiful again. It includes a lot of kale, celery, cucumber a couple of berries but it is mostly green and some avocado for glowing skin! After pilates I drink green tea every day before getting ready for work.”
Weirdest morning beauty habit?
“I actually gargle every morning with baking soda and water. My dentist told me it neutralizes pH for fresh breath. It also helps to whiten.”
What does your morning hair-care routine look like?
“I get a blowout a couple of times a week. I freshen it with some dry shampoo.”
How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?
“I wash with Lait VIP o2 from Biologique Recherche then apply my favorite serums for the day (I usually mix 2-4 like a cocktail and apply under my cream.) Right now I LOVE La Grande Creme also by Biologique Recherche and typically I finish off with Biologique Recherche Y’all O2 Serum mixed with Le Grande Serum. I sometimes use a little tinted moisturizer from either MBR or Omorovicza and mix it with one little drop of Biologique Recherche TEWL Serum (which is more of an oil) into the tint to give a beautiful finish.”
How long do you usually take to get ready for the day?
“It takes me 10 minutes to get ready in the morning. I wear lash extensions which helps me feel put together without having to wear makeup. It really saves so much time! We offer lash extensions and lash tinting at D A P H N E.”
What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?
“Biologique Recherche Le Grand Serum. It’s my must-have. It leaves a beautiful, glowing finish on the skin.”
Your favorite morning read?
“I go through my emails on my vibrational plate.”
What’s on your nightstand right now?
“I always spritz my linen pillowcase with a lavender spray because it helps me sleep. I sleep on linen because it’s minimally processed. The flax plant is naturally bug repellent and doesn’t need pesticides.”
Coffee, tea, or go-to morning drink?
What’s the last thing you did before you headed out the door today?
“I usually talk to my girlfriend on the phone (I am SO sick of texting!).”
