I’ve Finally Changed My Mind About Wearing Barrettes

Barrettes tend to conjure both nostalgia and practicality—school-picture days and dance recital bobby pins and something to ease, ever so slightly, a painful bangs-growing phase. I’ve rarely thought about wearing them simply for style’s sake, but lately barrettes—and bows—have been back in a big way, from the delicate floral pieces on the Chanel runway to the sparkly resin hairpins I’ve seen all over Instagram lately.

From Valet Studio’s seashell barrettes to Kitsch x Justine Marjan’s “GLAM” rhinestone bobby pins, I think I’ve finally been convinced to wear barrettes just because. You can pull a Margot Tenenbaum and wear a deep side-part held by a bobby pin, or single butterfly clip accenting the frothiest ‘90s messy bun à la a young Kirsten Dunst.
