Name two celebrities most likely to be heroes…Yep, you guessed it, it would be Cher and Meryl Streep, and they did, in fact, save a woman from being attacked.
Meryl Streep has hinted at this story in the past, but it was told in full by Cher on James Corden’s The Late Late Show during Cher and Streep’s press tour for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again sequel. Cher explained that the pair were getting in ice cream in Manhattan when they heard screaming and saw a “gigantic man” ripping off a woman’s clothes. “Meryl starts screaming, I start screaming,” Cher explains. “We run towards this gigantic man, he turns and starts running towards us, just out of nowhere, we split and he runs through us.”
The duo comforted the girl, who was coincidentally an actress herself, and helped her put her clothes back together. Cher said that the woman looked at her and Streep, exclaiming, “Oh my God, I was saved by Meryl Streep and Cher!” She told Cher that all her friends were going to be jealous.
Watch the clip in full here, and get ready for the greatness that will be the Mamma Mia! sequel, a full ten years after the original was released. Seeing Cher appear in the trailer was almost as exciting as when she starred in Burlesque.
