It’s the end of an era; a sign of the times. The Creatures of Comfort team announced on Instagram that after December 17th, they will end a 14-year-long run, shuttering e-commerce and in-store operations. An outpouring of love from CoC fans followed the social media announcement. “You will be so missed,” was the common thread and a clear indicator of the special community the brand cultivated through the years. To (hopefully) make the transition a little easier, everything in stores and online will be on sale for 50% off from now until the 17th.
Part private fashion label and part retail incubator, CoC has always been at the forefront of championing independent designers and thinking. It may seem like the brand is joining the fashion graveyard, but people are already wondering what creative director Jade Lai will do next. Before Lai’s next chapter begins, we are taking a moment to remember all of the reasons that made us CoC fans in the first place.
Quirkiness is next to godliness in the house of CoC, and that rule does not exclude tailoring or beauty.
Your dad might have been the first to wear socks with sandals, but Jade Lai made it cool.
Ditto to clogs.
Tie-dye and straw hats? Count us in.
Three words: Gold. Leaf. Nails.
This is arguably the best cowboy (girl?) hat that has ever been created.
Jade Lai is a true angel.
And her shoe game is prophetic. Case in point: these suede pumps still look relevant almost three years later. Maybe footwear is her next calling?
Solange is a fan. I could rest my case, but bear with me.
Will there ever be another maker of bags this good? Prob not.
At least we will always have the memories.
