Desmond is Amazing also walked in Gypsy Sport’s AW18 show, along with activist and model Munroe Bergdorf. This time, Desmond will be the face of the campaign alongside model Jazzelle Zanaughtti. “Our casting director Anthony Conti has been helping me discover and celebrate unique beauty since our first runway show in 2013,” Uribe told Dazed. “I’m very proud of the many black, brown, queer, trans, non-binary/gender nonconforming models that Gypsy Sport has introduced to the fashion industry.”
The campaign will also be shot by photographer Oscar Ouk in black and white, as a commentary on binarism. The zebra in the campaign is actually Nina Bo’Nina Brown of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Brown and another model both wear animal masks, and one striking image features the model crawling, tethered by a chain held by a dreadlocked figure.
Desmond is Amazing is also known by Desmond Napoles, a 10-year-old self-proclaimed “drag kid” who’s been a major LGBTQ advocate and also founded the first drag house for kids, Haus of Amazing. During the AW18 Gypsy Sport show, he wore a Renaissance-inspired ruffled collar, heeled patent boots, and long polka-dot nails. After the show, he posted, “My motto is ‘Be Yourself, Always.’”
