When the collection dropped March 26, there was a 30,000 waitlist to shop Everlane’s new minimalist, comfort-oriented line. With four styles of underwear (the thong, the bikini, the hipster, and the high-rise hipster), a wireless bra, and a bodysuit, all your underwear staples are taken care of. An additional bonus: the entire collection is made with light, ultra-breathable Supima cotton. One of the models for the collection is body-positive actress Jemima Kirke.
The first thing I thought upon seeing the bodysuit is what a perfect summertime staple it would be — worn easily underneath your clothes but also great on its own paired with jeans or denim cutoffs. So far, the collection is getting rave reviews. Comments on the site sing the praises of their thong (“You’ll reach for these first”) to the hipster (“If you had to only get one type of underwear, I would recommend this one.”)
The Everlane team wanted to get away from the traditionally sexy lingerie marketed to women — lingerie that rides up, squeezes, and prods with uncomfortable materials. “But times are changing — and so should our underwear,” the press release said. The line is also made in a factory that’s received accolades for its ethical manufacturing. MAS, the factory group that produces Everlane’s underwear, was recognized by Thomas Friedman as having working conditions that are “world-class” and they pay twice the national minimum wage in Sri Lanka.
Underwear as ethically made as it is comfortable? We’re sold.
