March is International Women’s Month. How cool is that? If you ask me, everyday is International Women’s Day. Everyday is a good day to love your fellow woman. Because women are as badass as we are, we’ve been able to master everything from science to fashion to politics.
Because Earth Day is also coming up, we’ve decided to take a look at some of our favorite female-founded sustainable brands because there is truly nothing as special as that.
Patagonia and Esprit began pioneering sustainable clothing in the late 1980s- thanks to the female designers for both brands observing the negative environmental impacts of the clothing manufacturing industry and wanting to do something about it.
When ESPRIT designer Lynda Grose showcased her first sustainably made collection in 1992, things have gone exponentially up from there. Sustainable fashion and women run clothing companies have been all the rage lately, and how could they not be?! Collina Strada recently showcased rose ‘sylk’ (a fabric derived from rose cellulose) and that only further pushed the movement. Gabriela Hearst’s fall/winter 2020 collection even had the theme ‘waste,’ which shared facts about how fashion needs to do something about how much excess is created each year.
Chances are, your favorite brands are women owned and run, but how does one decide what brand to support? The answer is easy: choose your favorite brand based on your what you like and who you want to support and the rest is her story ;).
Hopefully someday we can live in a society where every brand is run by talented people doing more for the planet, but in the meantime, we put together a little collage of women run brands making the world a better place.
