How Gabrielle Current Gets Her Glow

Very few moments in the day are as bare as the moment you wake up. We each have our own kinks and quirks that help us get out of bed, but few of us are brave enough to share them with the world. Introducing A Cool Morning, a deep dive into the intimate daytime rituals of our coolest friends and beauty innovators.

Gabrielle Current is taking over the music industry, one soulful tune at a time. The singer’s Los Angeles vibe shines through in her tranquil bops, and she’s teamed up with major rising names in music, like FINNEAS (Billie Eilish’s brother and longtime collaborator), Felix Cartal, and more. Current also has a new EP in the works, is writing more tunes, and is designing her own merchall while balancing the busy schedule of a fledgling pop star.

So how does she do it all? By starting her day off with the essentials: gluten-free pancakes from Trader Joe’s, jade rolling, and Aquaphor lip balm. Below, we dive into Current’s go-to morning routine.

What’s the first thing you do every morning?

“I’ve been trying to implement some sort of morning ritual, which usually involves letting my dogs outside, making coffee, burning Palo Santo, and doing some form of creative writing (journaling or lyric ideas).”

Do you have a morning workout routine?

“Not at the moment. I used to do hot yoga every morning, which was really beneficial physically and mentally. But now if I decide to do a workout, I’ll just book a class later in the day.”

Shower at-night, morning, or both?

“Always at night.”

Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?

“Every day is different. I’ll usually have a 6 a.m. alarm set, but if I don’t have to wake up early for a shoot or flight, I won’t end up getting out of bed until 8 or 9.”

Favorite breakfast?

“I’ll either make a smoothie, gluten-free pancakes from Trader Joe’s, banana ice cream (which is just blended frozen bananas and almond milk), or cereal. Lately, I’ve been killing a box of Fruit Loops.”

Weirdest morning beauty habit?

“Is a jade roller considered weird? My diet is especially sodium friendly at the moment so my face can get puffy in the AM, and a jade roller is supposed to increase lymphatic drainage. I don’t know if it actually makes a difference, but it feels incredible.”

Tell us your morning hair-care routine.

“I’m pretty lax about my hair. I prefer to keep it natural, so I never brush it and only use texture spray and oil. My hair absorbs product, so I’ll drench it with Oribe texturizing spray and Gisou honey hair oil.”

How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?

“I keep morning skincare simple by rinsing my face with water. However, I recently received a Tata Harper care package, so at night I can get a little crazy by doing the worksmasks, oils, serums, eye creams, etc. Tata Harper products are great because they’re 100% natural.”

How long do you usually take to get ready for the day?

“On average 15 minutes, although it really depends on what I’m doing, where I’m going, or who I’m going to see.”

What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?

“Aquaphor lip balm.”

Your favorite morning read?

“Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to read in the morning, but when I do, I gravitate towards optimistic reads. My friend just lent me The Four Agreements, so I’ve been switching between that and You2 by Price Pritchett.”

What’s on your nightstand right now?

“Homemade candles, sage, orange roses, baby lotion, and pineapple juice. Random but essential.”

What’s the current ringtone on your alarm?

“Chimes.”

Coffee, tea, or go-to morning drink?

“Oat milk cappuccino. Every. Single. Day.”

Name one song that describes your day.

“‘Holy’ by Jamila Woods.”

What’s your favorite album at the moment?

“Anderson Paak’s album ‘Ventura’ just dropped, and it’s been entirely on rotation. I’ve also been loving Flow State by Tash Sultana.”
